FlingSmash is very similar to Wii Play in that it is a game that Nintendo published to demonstrate a bundled controller’s capabilities. FlingSmash is designed to showcase the updated version of the Wii Remote Plus, unlike Wii Play, which only came with the original Wii Remote. This Wii Remote has the Wii Motion Plus technology built into it.
The gameplay is a cross between pinball and table tennis; the player uses the joystick to launch the ball-shaped character known as Zip into displays that scroll horizontally or vertically to various blocks and other objects. Zip can adapt its size and shape to multiple environments, including a large steel ball.
The plot centers on this individual tasked with defending Sutton Island against an enemy known as Omminus. The player will have to progress through eight normal stages, each of which conceals five medallions for them to find. The tops of tropical trees, caves under the sea, and beaches are some of the environments that can be explored. In addition to these standard stages, there are a total of eight additional locations as well as eight more minigames.
