The popular Japanese animated series One Piece inspired the creation of the role-playing game One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. After two pirates are on board, the Thousand Sunny ships admit to devouring all the food, and the remaining pirates decide to refill their supplies at the surrounding islands. When they unexpectedly find themselves on a magical island, they lose their ship, increasing their desire to find buried gold.
The player assumes control of one of the game’s eight pirates and can swap between them anytime. Hostile creatures and plant life can fall prey to the pirates’ attacks. Plant life can drop leaves, spices, wood, and fruit, whereas enemies only drop iron and gunpowder. Enemies also sometimes drop wood. These materials can be fashioned into specialized implements, such as a pick axe, fishing rod, and butterfly net, among other things. These technologies can then be put to use to locate further resources.
It is up to the player to explore the planet and locate the resources needed to complete the numerous objectives the pirates are tasked with completing. The pirates can frequently access previously inaccessible regions of the earth by combining their resources. For instance, they can construct a bridge by combining wood and liana vines. Consuming food will grant the pirates benefits that will increase their abilities.
