The animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Republic Heroes spans seasons one and two. In the game, the player discovers more about the enigmatic bounty hunter Cad Bane and pursues the all-new Skakoan super villain Kul Teska in a gameplay style reminiscent of Lego Star Wars.
The game is designed entirely on a two-player drop-in/drop-out coop. This implies that each mission in this third-person action-adventure involves two prominent characters from the TV series, divided by class, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the padawan Ahsoka, and Captain Rex. The players either control commandos or Jedi characters, never both, as their skills and restrictions are vastly different. If no second player is present, the AI will immediately take over the second character and assist in overcoming the many hurdles that await – mainly in the shape of various types of separatist droids. While the players can defend themselves with their lightsaber or weapon, the Jedi characters can ride the droids by climbing upon them from behind. This is useful for blasting through enemy lines and solving unique riddles that hinder the characters from progressing.
Furthermore, the droids can be forced to dance with every other on the screen to follow his example, rendering them helpless. These dances are unique to each droid and must be purchased first at the shop. Amusing masks and battle upgrades, such as more potent blasters or a more powerful force push, are also available.
Players must first unlock these items and invest points earned by killing foes and completing objectives or mini-games to purchase them. These mini-games are dispersed throughout the levels and appear after completing a specific section. They usually entail killing as many adversaries as possible in a short period. Each kill in a row, both in normal gameplay and mini-games, raises the multiplier, adding even more points to the account. When a player dies, he will respawn at the nearest checkpoint, either immediately if he is playing alone or if the second player has reached one, with no penalties.
