Link, a young boy, was reared in the village of the elf-like Kokiri people. One day, a fairy named Navi brings him to the Great Deku Tree, the village’s guardian. A strange figure appears to have cursed the tree, and Link is ordered to the Hyrule Castle to learn more. Princess Zelda informs Link that Ganondorf, the head of the Gerudo clan, is after the Triforce, a holy relic that bestows enormous power on the holder. The link must use all his abilities to obtain the Triforce before Ganondorf and save Hyrule.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the first 3D installment in the series. It is an action game with puzzle-solving and mild role-playing components, similar to most of its predecessors. The gameplay is identical to previous games, with Link exploring the realm and completing dungeons to collect essential items and advance the plot. This installment features sword combat and numerous recognizable items such as boomerangs, bombs, the series’ currency (rupees) of varying values, heart containers, and their collecting shards that permanently increase Link’s health, etc. The Link may lock on adversaries for melee and ranged combat, employ a shield to deflect projectiles, and use various magic items. The dungeon exploration is a little more puzzle-oriented than in previous games, and LLink can climb specific surfaces, dive underwater, and jump automatically.

The player controls the infant Link initially, but an adult Link becomes a selectable character later. Each has distinct abilities: for example, only adult Link can use a bow and arrows, but only young Link can crawl through tight locations. The player receives the Ocarina of Time during the game. Learning and performing tunes on the ocarina is necessary to advance the plot, complete certain side quests, or travel through time, swapping between the two versions of Link. To assist travel between locations, it is possible to befriend and ride a horse named Epona.
