Much like the one before, this game incorporates the classic hack-and-slash gameplay of the Dynasty Warriors series into the Gundam franchise. This version features a much-enlarged range of playable Mobile Suits, which now also includes grunt units such as Zaku and Jegan, in addition to extra playable characters from the Gundam series War in the Pocket, F91, V Gundam, Turn A Gundam, Gundam SEED, and Gundam SEED Destiny. Another new feature battles against mobile suits of enormous sizes, such as the Byg-Zam and the Psyco Gundam.
The events of Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Double Zeta, and Char’s Counterattack are retold in Original Mode in the same way as they were in the previous game through a succession of levels and text interludes. Each story is told from the perspective of the protagonist of the respective series. In Mission Mode, the player can choose any pilot available in the game. Whom the player engages in conflict with will determine who they eventually see as trustworthy friends or bitter competitors. This will determine who their allies and foes are. In the game’s Mission Mode, each pilot has a set of short story missions primarily based on events from their original series. However, these missions have been tweaked or enlarged so that they can make use of the other characters in the game. Various competitive modes pit players against each other in a race to achieve objectives or score kills. These modes can be played offline or online. Nearly every Official and Mission Mode level can be played in cooperative mode.
The more enemies a pilot destroys, the more powerful they get, and while they fight, they pick up new abilities from the Mobile Suit they pilot. The characteristics of a Mobile Suit come from its torso and four limbs; if a particular model of MS is destroyed in battle, each of these components can be upgraded to a more powerful variant.
