The marooned Meccs, who specialize in firearms and other things that go boom, the mystical and cold-blooded Reapers, who were the original inhabitants of the planet, but were forced to live in the sea by Kabuto, the third character, a genuinely gigantic monster with a ravenous appetite and a fondness for performing wrestling maneuvers on those the size of his hand. These three races fight to control the few available landmasses on a distant planet.

You can take control of any of these races in their struggle to become the preeminent species; however, in the single-player mode, you must first work your way through the narratives of the Meccs and the Reapers. The manner that each species plays the game is unique, and the kinds of assaults available to them are very distinct.

The video game Giants: Citizen Kabuto emphasizes the action component of its real-time strategic gameplay. Most races can construct bases and manage their resources, but the interface is straightforward and requires just one or two keystrokes to control. Most of the action takes place from a third-person perspective (although a first-person option is also included), consisting of jetpacking, warping, and leaping across a 3D environment. Missions in single-player games have clear objectives, such as finding and saving Smarties or regaining possession of misplaced goods. Standard deathmatch, capturing the Smartie (the game’s flag), and the modes above, with the addition of base-building, are all available as multiplayer options.

The islands are home to a variety of other animals as well. From the docile Smarties (who, depending on your species, are used to construct your bases or consumed as a primary source of protein), to the cow-like vamps, to the lethal rippers, the fauna of the planet will either strive to kill you or escape being killed, eaten, or kidnapped. In negligent fighting (or if Kabuto isn’t paying attention), the islands’ flora can be crushed, toppled over, or burned, even though they possess much energy.

The game’s controls are similar to those of Shiny’s MDK, and the interface is best characterized as a stripped-down shooter version. You can run, leap, turn, strafe, and shoot. After that, all you need to do to play is press a half-dozen keys at a time (and some of them, like Kabuto’s screams, are just for fun and show).

The game takes place in an otherworld that is vividly colored and highly colorful overall. In addition to that, the game makes an effort to keep its sense of comedy throughout. Even the multiplayer mode is amusing, with Smarties cheering you on as you carry them on your back, among other minor sounds and quirks. The single-player game contains funny language and a few gags around its plot path.
