King Athellion has departed from his homeworld to participate in a crusade that is taking place across the galaxy. He left behind a massive bell, which they called The Golden Voice, so that his people might contact him if they were ever in danger. However, while he is away, the villainous Lord Vetch conquers the world and brings Athellion’s people under his control by infecting them with a virus that eventually kills them. A virus, the therapy for which must be maintained with something called Catana, an antidote. Since Lord Vetch was the only one who controlled the catana-support, he could simply coerce everyone into working for him. As part of his plan to forestall Athelion’s return, he concealed “The Golden Voice,” Soon enough, the artifact and the king’s vow were lost to history. He is forgotten until one of the enslaved people, Haven, begins having dreams in which he sees a hill and a bell, but he cannot interpret what these dreams signify for him. As Lord Vetch learns of Haven’s plans, he gives the order to have him put to death. Haven can elude capture and finally discover the symbols’ significance in his dreams. He becomes resolute in his mission to track down The Golden Voice and end Lord Vetch’s rule.

Haven is primarily a fast-paced, action-packed platformer but also features aspects from various other gameplay genres. Haven can pick up many multiple weapons, and certain areas of the gameplay are more like a shooter than a platformer. Several vehicles can be piloted, ranging from gliders, spaceships, and jetpacks to speedboats and jetcars. Despite all of these action-oriented components, other levels with a slower pace focus more on solving puzzles and exploring the environment.

Rodney Matthews, an English sci-fi and fantasy artist who is reasonably well-known, is responsible for the conceptual artwork that was used to create Haven. This is obvious in Haven’s surrealistic and weird design.
