In the sequel to the first LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, players now have the opportunity to explore the first three episodes of the Star Wars film series (Episodes IV, V, and VI). This new game also features the return of the Lego characters. Players recreate all three of the original Star Wars films using LEGO versions of the characters from the franchise. All of the sets and props are likewise constructed out of LEGO bricks. They maintain the characteristics unique to LEGO bricks, such as the capacity to be disassembled and reassembled. In the same way that its predecessor did, this game injects a new dynamic into the series by giving the films an air of silliness and fun while omitting all spoken dialogue.

The action-adventure video game LEGO Star Wars II is played from a third-person perspective and features some platforming gameplay. This game puts the Star Wars characters and vehicles under the player’s command. In Story Mode, players use LEGO bricks to reproduce the most critical scenes from the movies that inspired the game. Each playable character is equipped with a unique set of weaponry, such as lightsabers and crossbows for Jedi and Wookiees, respectively, in addition to additional attacks and movements that are character-specific. Each character also possesses unique skills, such as R2-D2’s ability to open locked doors, Boba Fett’s command of his jetpack, or the Jedi’s mastery of the force. The player is responsible for using these talents to solve relatively straightforward puzzles and advance through the game’s levels. Compared to the previous game, this one features vehicle levels more prominently, with longer sequences dedicated to piloting traditional Star Wars aircraft.

There is a single-player game and a cooperative mode that allows two players to play through the Story Mode together. Both of these modes are included in the game. The artificial intelligence takes control of the second character when playing in single-player mode. Free-play mode, just like in the first game, allows players to go back and play through previously completed levels using any playable character they have unlocked. The ability for users to construct their own unique LEGO figures and vehicles has been included as a new feature. In addition, new playable characters, cars, and items can be unlocked for players to explore when they acquire Power Brock items and coin stubs throughout the Story Mode.
