This is a remake of the first Romancing SaGa game.

Following the defeat of the three evil gods, Death, Saruin, and Schirach, Mardias has experienced a thousand years of tranquility. The last evil deity standing, Saruin, was imprisoned with the power of the 10 Fatestones – scattered across Mardias. One thousand years after Saruin’s imprisonment, eight adventurers confront an unknown destiny against the silent, growing evil awaiting to challenge the lands of Mardias once again…

Romancing SaGa is an anime role-playing adventure game with turn-based combat from a third-person perspective. In this game, the player assumes the role of one of eight possible heroes or heroines.

Each character has a unique primary storyline, but choosing either character does not significantly alter the plot. In addition to distinct primary storylines, each character has a different (optional) starting class that can be modified throughout the game. The game uses a non-linear storyline, and symbols can travel the world regardless of the primary plot. The player’s party consists of up to five characters, which may be added or removed at their discretion throughout the game.

The Gameplay of Romancing SaGa may be categorized as * Character Development and Skills.

Character development in Romancing SaGa comprises two distinct products: The first is automatic statistic development, where the characters statistically level up per attribute (not per level) after each combat. The second is manual skill development, in which the player can exchange gemstones for character skill upgrades, such as Longsword, Climbing, and Search Chests.

Character Class levels correspond to character levels, and specific talents must be improved for a character to meet the class requirements. Each class has distinct traits; for example, a Swordsman gains benefits in attack mode. Types of characters do not affect the plot.

Turn-based Conflict
Standard turn-based RPG combat, with the peculiarity of the combat being your characters’ automatic combo abilities. In certain circumstances, the player’s characters can combine their assaults against an opponent (a combo), resulting in more significant effects (beyond visual effects).

During combat, characters may develop special weapon skills. Weapon proficiency can only be acquired through action and enlightenment (Glimmer). Weapon skills use BPs (Battle Points) and (occasionally) DPs (Duration Points); each weapon skill has different BPs, which are affected by a character’s skills; for example, a character with a level two skill in Longsword uses fewer BPs for the longsword weapon skill.

Another exciting feature about the weapons regarding combat: each character may equip up to five weapons (optional) and may choose from those five different weapons at any point during the battle, thus adding more tactical possibilities in action. This may concern a weapon’s DPs (Duration Points). If a weapon’s DP is depleted (typically due to the use of special weapon abilities), it breaks and becomes unusable in combat. It may only be repaired at a blacksmith or an inn.

In contrast to other role-playing games, all character attributes (health, etc.) are promptly restored after combat. However, if a character collapses during battle, their LPs (Life Points) decrease, and if the LP decreases to zero, the character will perish permanently. By recuperating at an inn, LPs are restored.
