Shining Force EXA is the next installment in the Shining Force series. Still, in contrast to most of the series’ preceding games, it takes a role-playing game (RPG) approach to the gameplay rather than a turn-based strategic format. Real-time combat, an “art” system for customizing characters and weapons, and an upgrade system for armor are all featured in this video game. As a result, it is regarded as the spiritual successor of Shining Force NEO, having inherited many of the game’s characteristics.

Players can take on the role of either the mighty Warrior Toma or the powerful Sorceress Cyrille. They are soon joined by the elfin archer Maebelle and the knight Gadfort immediately after their arrival. They each have their own motivations for participating in the search for the holy weapon known as Shining Force. The conflict between humanity and demons, which wreaks havoc on both sides, is the primary emphasis of the narrative. The story unfolds in a world split into two kingdoms: The Noswald Empire, which humans rule, and Fyrlandt, which is led by demons.

The Geo-Fortress, a movable base, serves as the player’s primary point of operation. As the player travels over the map, they will have opportunities to improve the fortress. This can be accomplished by gathering “rare material,” which enables the defense to be upgraded to three different forms, with each state being more potent than the previous one. Moving around until the game has reached its final shape is not feasible. The fortification is the focal point for the other aspects of the strategy. The player can choose which party members to take on missions, make room for new stores, and train existing party members. It is also vulnerable to assault and requires protection to remain operational.
