Star Wars: The Force Unleashed bridges the gap between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, which explains the origins of the Rebellion. The player assumes control of a young kid Darth Vader discovered while fighting the boy’s Jedi father in Kashyyk. Vader adopts the youngster as his secret apprentice, training him to hunt down the remaining Jedi spread throughout the galaxy.

The majority of the game has the player exploring levels and using force powers such as lightning and grip to decimate opponents by throwing them off high areas, electrocuting them, or even slamming them into environmental objects, as well as Force Repulse, which can propel enemies backward. There’s also the conventional light-saber, capable of slicing opponents and changing colors by collecting different color crystals during the game.

Players can improve their abilities by eliminating adversaries and stocking up on blue orbs left behind to earn points for more powerful strikes. Using flashy and complicated enemies will get you more force orbs. At the end of each level, the player will face bosses ranging from Jedi to enormous animals like a Rancor. To defeat these bosses, the player must execute a sequence of button-pressing scenes similar to those in the God of War games.
