It is possible to play SWAT: Global Strike Team as either a first-person shooter or a strategy game because it blends the arcade action of Virtua Cop with the tactical, strategic features of the previous game, SWAT 3.
The Special Weapons and Tactics Group (SWAT: GST) is an international, specialized squad whose primary mission is to protect, defend, and rescue the lives of innocent people. The plot events take place in the future, in the year 2008, which is also the year that the GST was established. Players will take on the role of Mathias Kincaid, a former United States Army Delta Force member, and guide their squad through all stages of development, from basic training to full-fledged covert operations.
There are 21 co-op missions for single players and 10 co-op missions only available for multiplayer, involving searching for and rescuing people from terrorist groups. Several other game modes are available, such as the Campaign, Co-op, Free-for-all, Team Deathmatch, and Time Attack. The orders are given to the team members either through the controller interface or through an optional voice recognition system paired with a communication headset. The game provides players with a selection of different assault weapons in addition to accessories like night vision goggles.
A brand-new engine was developed especially for this game to create photorealistic shadows and an appearance similar to that of a movie by using specialized filtering.
