The previous game’s hero, Tak, has been unexpectedly dozing off into a deep sleep at odd intervals. During this time, he is sent to the “Dream World,” where he is informed that he must save a princess or fall into a deep sleep from which he will never awaken. If he fails to save the princess, he will enter a sleep from which he will never awaken. During their trip, Tak and Jibolba, Tak’s mentor, pay a visit to Jibolba’s brother, JB, a dream specialist.

The sequel, Tak 2, is quite distinct from its predecessor, Tak and the Power of Juju. Although it is still a 3D platform game, the emphasis is not on collecting goods but on solving puzzles and engaging in combat. In the earliest rounds of the game, Tak must use animals to his benefit as he makes his way through the levels. For instance, a bear can be used as a trampoline, and Tak can ride warthogs after being sprayed by skunks to conceal his scent. Several other animal-related strategies can be used. Jibolba has accompanied them on their journey, but for convenience’s sake, he has assumed the form of a flea. Consequently, you can fling him at foes to bite them and put them to sleep.

Later, Tak eventually develops the ability to morph into various animals. He can swim without being devoured by crocodiles when he transforms into a frog, soars on air currents when he transforms into a flying squirrel, and charge past walls when he transforms into a warthog. As Tak advances through the game, he will eventually obtain the Staff of Dreams, and once he does, he will be able to use his magic, commonly known as “juju,” to generate more powerful strikes.
