TOCA Race Driver 3 continues the storyline that was established in the previous installment, Race Driver 2. The goal of the game is to simulate as many distinct types of four-wheeled racing as possible within a single game while also imbuing each of these types with a high level of realism.
This racing video game features over 70 officially licensed vehicles, 80 authentic racetracks, and 35 distinct types of racing.
There are two primary game modes to choose from. In the World Tour mode, the player begins a racing career and, with the assistance of a Scottish manager, works toward the goal of gaining recognition and qualifying for more prestigious racing competitions. There are cutscenes in the game that are rendered in 3D and presented from the player’s point of view. These cutscenes advance the story and, despite not being as detailed as those in the previous game, provide a good understanding of the other aspects of a professional racer’s life outside just the racing itself. In this mode, elements from each of the several types of racing are combined.
The second mode gives the player the option to specialize in a particular field and play out their entire career based on that decision. In this mode, there is no backstory, and the races are longer and more realistic.
There are two distinct driving models available in TOCA Race Driver 3, referred to respectively as Simulation and Pro-Simulation. This last option comes highly recommended for gamers who only have access to analog steering wheels. The simulation mode is designed for those who do not have access to wheels or who desire an experience with fewer challenges. In addition to this, the Simulation mode in TOCA Race Driver 2 is significantly more complex than this option.
