In the distant future, Japan will establish the Information Self-Defense Force, also known as the I-SDF. The establishment of this force is regarded as a breach of both international law and the constitution of Japan, and it contributes to an increase in the tension between Japan, China, and North Korea. Following the establishment of shipping blockades around Japan by North Korea and China, the Japanese government eventually requested assistance from the United States, citing article nine of the Postwar Constitution. During this period, Japan unearthed more evidence that the infamous Black Gold Day resulted from information warfare attacks that were carried out on purpose. At the same time that the United States is getting ready to launch the USS Clarence E. Walsh, Third Echelon sends the legendary Sam Fisher on a mission that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the incident, but it could turn out to be the most significant part of the whole thing.

For the third time in the series, players assume the character of field agent Sam Fisher in the video game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. This time around, Fisher is equipped with some brand new moves and a new weapon that is always at his disposal: a battle knife. Sam can murder his adversaries or knock them unconscious by utilizing the blade. After each mission, the player is given a summary of their performance. The more lives the player preserves, the higher the success score.

The single-player game is far less linear than the previous two entries in the Splinter Cell series. Although players are still required to pass through certain areas in a “tunnel” fashion, with no choice of where to go, there are many instances in which they can choose how they would like to get to their destination. For example, in the caverns, one can kill two foes and cross the bridge or leave them alone, sneak up the side road, and climb a ladder at the end, allowing one to avoid the encounter entirely while still arriving at the same destination.

Throughout the game, players will travel to various settings, including a lighthouse, a Japanese tea house, Seoul, New York City during a blackout on the East Coast, and several other fascinating places.

The multiplayer mode, Spies vs. Mercenaries, which was available in the game before this one, has been brought back with some new additions. You can play on one of several brand-new, expansive landscapes or an improved map from a previous game. This mode is available on the game’s Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC versions.
