BioShock is a first-person shooter game set in 1960, when the story begins with a crashing plane in the Atlantic Ocean. Happily, the only survivor named Jack, finds an underwater city called Rapture that was built in the 1940s as a paradise of free will. However, Jack discovers chaos and ruin instead. He must learn about Rapture’s fate while trying to survive. The game has elements similar to System Shock games. Rapture’s setting combines sci-fi, art deco, and steampunk styles. The plot unfolds through recorded messages left by inhabitants. Players can use firearms and plasmids, which are like magic abilities against deformed citizens called Splicers. Therefore, combat involves using different weapons and plasmids strategically. Players can also hack devices and customize their characters. The game blends action with light RPG elements, but it focuses more on combat than its predecessors
