The video game Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is based on four popular films: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, and On Stranger Tides. This game combines these movies with the child-friendly Lego aesthetic of other Lego games, but everything else remains the same. The user controls characters like Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth, and Bootstrap and uses their specific talents to complete puzzles. Most puzzles involve the player constructing items out of Lego bricks or unlocking locked doors. In addition to the playable characters, the player can also control animals such as a dog or a bird. The plot lets the user select one of four movies and a chapter to watch, each having four chapters.
The plot begins with the pirate “Jack Sparrow” and the blacksmith “Will Turner” meeting and sparring; after Jack fails to defeat Will and is imprisoned, the ship “The Black Pearl” comes to the harbor and raids the city. Will rescues Jack when his love, Elizabeth, is kidnapped by pirates. Jack and Will steal a ship from the Navy and take it to Tortuga, where they form a crew and follow The Pearl to where they are transporting Elizabeth.
The second film follows Jack and the rest of the crew searching for the chest containing Davy Jones’ heart. They can dodge Jones’ anger if they have the heart. The third film depicts the struggle between the Navy and the pirates; the Navy now has the box with the place and uses it to force Davy Jones to fight for them. Jack, Elizabeth, and Will plan to fight them off by uniting all the pirates under one banner, but they’re running out of time.
The fourth film follows Jack and Captain Barbosa as they search for a source of eternal life. They are pursued, however, by the pious Spanish Navy, which wants to destroy the start since they believe no one should have eternal life. It’s another primary race.
The Free Play mode also allows players to return to previously completed chapters and play with any character they like. By playing this mode, the player can locate items that were previously hidden from them due to his inability to apply a particular ability required to solve one of the puzzles. These goods can be traded for unique skills or items and can even be used to purchase new characters. They can spend this money in the HUB world, a pirate bay with various businesses, and then resume the story at the ship in the port.
