Nihon Falcom made The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the Third for PC, PSP, and other platforms. It is the third game in the Japanese RPG series. The game is the last part of the Trails in the Sky trilogy, available in the West on many platforms. The PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3 versions of the game have only been released in Japan. On the other hand, the PC/Windows version can be bought anywhere in the world.

Plot

Half a year after The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky’s Second Chapter, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky’s Third Chapter takes place. The player’s adventure starts when they get on a plane flying under the flag of the Empire of Erebor. Kevin Graham, the main character of this game, has to get an unknown object from the bottom of Valeria Lake in the realm of Liverl. Kevin and his old friend Ries Argent go to a place called Phantasma, which is also known as the Land of Shadows. This place has laws that don’t have anything to do with reality. The heroes start looking into something, leading them to many old mysteries.

Mechanics

The gameplay isn’t all that different from what you may have seen in the other games in the series. Exploring, looking for valuable items, and completing various tasks, both main missions and side quests given by the many NPCs, are all essential parts of the game. When the main characters look for places underground, they often find locked doors with symbols of the stars and the moon on them. If you talk to them, you might be able to play minigames and see story-related cutscenes.

Combat is another part of the game, and it is this part that has changed the most. Aside from adding new types of enemies, the game also adds new abilities to the enemies and gives the player’s characters new skills. The game’s mechanics have also been improved, and the player’s characters have gained new abilities. The turn bonuses also build on the above mechanics: “Rush” lets characters do two things at once; “Guard” makes them immune to damage; “Vanish” makes a target disappear for several turns; and “Death” lets the player kill an enemy with any attack right away. Battles happen on a tactical grid, and the key to winning is to switch between characters’ skills and come up with the best plan.

How things work

The technology behind The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, the third game for PC, PSP, and other platforms, was made just for the first two games in the series. Once more, players see bright pictures that look like they came from an anime cartoon. Depending on the platform, the visuals have a different amount of detail. There is also the option to import saved game data from the first two games.

It’s important to note that the game’s console versions only have Japanese dubbing because the game hasn’t been released anywhere else.
