Final Fantasy IX: Alternate Fantasy is a Final Fantasy IX mod intended to offer a new freshness to the game. It is about renewing the way of playing for those who have already finished it at least once.
The difficulty is also increased. Without being punitive, the game becomes harder to finish and complete. Character skills and combat against enemies have been modified, including giving more importance to status ailments. Some mini-games and side quests have been slightly modified. You will need to know the basic game system well and know how to adapt to the changes introduced by the mod in order to progress.
An important example of a side quest that has been modified is the famous quest to obtain Excalibur II: it is now possible to recover this sword in two different ways:
– Or by defeating the superboss Pluto in less than 14 hours.
– Either by collecting all the 404 treasures and chests in the game and thus obtaining the S rank and ultimate rank of Treasure Hunter.
The mod remains storiedly faithful to the original but also introduces some dialogues and hidden scenes (including those from the “Hidden Dialogs” patch), which are impossible to see in the normal version.
