If you have no sound at all then delete the following 2 files from the gamedir: dsound.dll and dsoal-aldrv.dll
If you have missing sound effects in the game (footsteps,hits,world) then in the game options disable EAX, set the sound quality to Low and 44100 Hz (already preconfigured), restart the game
